How can i retrieve password of a Blackberry smartphone device?

My boss forgot the password of his Blackberry phone. Wonder how can i retrieve it or do i have to install the OS again?

    He has two options

    1. Remember the password

    2. Enter an incorrect password 3-10 time to restore the phone to factory default settings
